Flounder, Speckled Trout and Blues at Carolina Beach - 10/19/09

We have had execellent fall fishing, water temp is down in the 70s and the fish are moving. We’ve had nice catches this past weekend of Speckled Trout, big Blues and citation Flounders. The Flounder bite is on with some of these fish ranging from 2.5 to over 5 lbs this past week. Live bait has been the choice of baits, fished on a Carolina Rig. Flounder, Red Fish at Carolina Beach - 9/15/09

The fishing has taken off, water temp is down in the 70s and the fish are moving. We’ve had nice catches of Red Fish, big Blues, huge Sharks and starting to see some really nice Speckled Trout. The Flounder bite is on with some of these fish ranging from 2.5 to 9.5 lbs this past week. Now that we have some nice Finger Mullet around we should start seeing some good numbers and sizes of these fish. Right off shore about 2 miles we have been catching Spanish Mackerel in the 3 and 4 pound range, they have been a blast to sight cast to. Fall fishing is here and the fishing will only get better. Regardless of what you might think these citations are not like getting a ticket, they are a good thing. The State of North Carolina sets citation limits and if your fish meets the requirements or better the state will send you a certificate for an exceptional catch with your name, type of fish and weight or length. These pink slips are not tickets they are the citation paperwork, Flounders must weight 5 lbs or more to get one of these.

Red Fish, Spanish, Trout, Flounder - 8/26/09

The fishing is really starting to take off. We’ve had nice catches of over slot Red Fish, big Blues, huge Sharks and starting to see some really nice Speckled Trout. The Flounder bite is still going strong with some of these fish ranging from 2.5 to 9.5 lbs this past week. The fishing is really starting to take off. We’ve had nice catches of over slot Red Fish, big Blues and huge Sharks. The Flounder bite is still going strong. Now that we have some nice Finger Mullet around we should start seeing some good numbers and sizes of these fish. Carolina Beach Fishing Report - 7/21/09

Fishing out of Carolina and Wrightsville Beach has been consistent and we have been catching everything from upper slot Redfish, Flounder, Spanish & Kings to name a few. The Redfish and Flounder are biting well on live Menhaden and cut Mullet and if you catch one of those annoying Pinfish he makes a great Flounder bait as well. Just cut into 1 inch strips about 3 to 4 inches long kinda like a yield sign, they love it.

We’ve been catching Redfish along the docks in the ICW using live bait, the best tides have been the falling tide. We have not been able to turn around some of these drag screamers.

The offshore action has been on fire lately with Spanish and King Mackerel. The Spanish have been right outside the inlets catching them by trolling or sight casting. King’s are also mixed in but the bigger ones have been anywhere from 5 to 10 miles out even with a few nice Mahi being caught.

Carolina Beach Fishing Report - 6/27/09

Water temps are in the 80s and the fishing has been great with nice catches of Flounder, Speckled Trout and Red Drum using live bait on a Carolina Rig. Live bait is still everywhere and Finger Mullet should start showing up anytime, I can’t wait. We’ve been catching Flounder all along the ICW and Carolina Beach Inlet. The Speckled Trout bite is still good along the Cape Fear River using live Shrimp on float rigs and artificial DOAs.

Red Drum are finally showing up along the dock’s in the ICW and Carolina Beach Inlet with some nice sizes, remember you are only allowed one fish per person per day but what a fight they put on.

Right offshore the Spanish Mackerel are showing up in good numbers, what a blast to sight cast to. There have also been some nice King’s mixed in with the Spanish.

Shark fishing is just around the corner so if you want a fight they will be more than glad to give you one that you won’t forget.

So grab the kids and let’s go fishing.

Carolina Beach Fishing Report - 6/12/09

Carolina Beach Fishing is in full swing. The flounder fishing has really picked up this past week, some of these fish weighing anywhere from 2.5 up to 9 pounds have been caught. The best bait has been live menhaden on a Carolina Rig. It should not be much longer before the Finger Mullet should start showing up, also an excellent bait.

We are still catching some nice Speckled Trout in the Cape Fear, using artificial DOA’s and live Shrimp.

Near-shore the Spanish are right off the beach along with some Snake Kings mixed in. Also some Cobia have been reported around the inlet at Wrightsville Beach.

Carolina Beach Fishing Report - 5/27/09

Carolina Beach fishing is finely starting to turn on with live bait everywhere. Despite the boat traffic on Memorial Day Weekend I was able to take out some great customers and put them on some nice Speckled Trout and Flounder. I’ll let the pictures below say the rest.

Carolina Beach Fishing Report - 5/14/09

Despite windy conditions this week (and not being able to get offshore), the inshore fishing is starting to pick up, and live bait was everywhere. So to hide from the wind Andy Watts of NY, NY and I loaded up on bait and headed for the Cape Fear River. We started off with the good old artificial DOAs looking for Trout. The Trout bite just wasn’t on, but we didn’t give up. Finally we got a strike and landed a small Bluefish and then another bite and pulled up a 14 inch flounder.

Next we picked up and headed north to some docks and switched to live bait. This was the right move. All of a sudden another strike, I told Andy to set the hook. When he did the fight was on, striping drag off and then headed for the docks. Andy finally got him turned around and landed a nice 9 1/2 pound Bluefish, what a fight on light tackle. We also were not so fortunate on turning some of these fish around but what fun we had. So what turned out to be a tough day with winds 15-20 ended up not being so bad after all.
