Fishing in the Carolina Beach area is finally starting to heat up. Inshore fishing is getting better, this past week we have had nice catches of speckled trout, flounder and red fish. We are now allowed to keep the speckled trout as long as they are within the required size limits. Down around the Southport and Bald Head island area we are still catching whitting, big croaker, spots, flounder, black drum and red fish. Our inlets are also producing flounder, bluefish and a few speckled trout while drift fishing. Near shore we are having good numbers of spanish mackerel and bonita while trolling or site casting. Our nearby reefs are producing flounder, grey trout, black sea bass and over slot red fish. Also there are sharks and an occasional barracuda, as you’ll see in the picture below that was caught while flounder fishing on a nearby reef. Thanks for reading this report and hope to see you on the water.
